The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) has announced the establishment of the Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE), a new program to recognise and encourage exceptional PhD students who display remarkable academic and research skills. This grant intends to facilitate speedy completion of PhD studies while also fostering high-quality research results.

The admission process is now accessible to full-time PhD students currently enrolled at IIT Kanpur who submit their thesis within five years after beginning the PhD program. Students who write their thesis within five years and six months are also eligible, although the fellowship period will be changed accordingly.

Eligibility criteria include at least one accepted or published research paper as first author in a reputable journal or conference proceedings, which is directly related to their PhD study. The fellowship is available to students starting in the year 2018.

The fellowship provides financial support for up to 12 months, with a stipend comparable to that of the Institute's Post-Doctoral Fellows, as well as extra research-related funding. The existing Thesis Supervisor will continue to function as Mentor, however collaboration with other faculty members during the fellowship period is strongly encouraged.
