Since the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association was founded in 1928, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal played their encounter on 12th January. On January 12, when hosts Uttar Pradesh took on Bengal in a four-day Elite Group "B" Ranji Trophy match, it was a landmark day for Kanpur's Green Park Stadium. This would be the 50th Ranji Trophy match since the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association was founded in 1928 at this location.

Did You Know?

At this location, Bengal had defeated Uttar Pradesh (then known as United Province) by 45 runs in their maiden Ranji Trophy encounter in December 1945. In January 1981, the second encounter between Bengal and this location resulted in a dull tie. However, Uttar Pradesh avenged that 2009 defeat by defeating the visitors in a thrilling three-wicket victory in December.

Uttar Pradesh has won ten, lost nine, and had one Ranji Trophy match abandoned out of 49 played at this location. Twenty-eight matches resulted in draws, including one neutral tie between Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh.

Bengal and Uttar Pradesh's 1945 inaugural Ranji Trophy encounter was a low-scoring contest. United Province, captained by M Nissar, gave up a 27-run advantage in the first innings. Bengal's outstanding player was opener PB Dutta, who amassed a 130-ball 63 off 10 boundaries.

The hosts have another opportunity to increase their winning margin in the fourth Ranji Trophy game between the two teams, which gets underway on 12th Jan. Rinku Singh, a hitter, and Kuldeep Yadav, have joined Team India for the T20I home series against Afghanistan. Uttar Pradesh will be without their services. It is stated that Nitish Rana and Shivam Sharma have taken their place. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a seasoned player, has also been added to the team.
