Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visits the Field Gun Factory in Kanpur to assess India's vital domestic defence capabilities. Based in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Field Gun Factory, a division of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), specialised in producing barrel and breach assemblies for a range of tanks and artillery guns, including the Dhanush Gun and Tank T-90.
Defence Minister was accompanied by Secretary, Defence Production Sanjeev Kumar and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat.
Singh visited several important facilities, such as the factory's New Assembly Shop and Heat Treatment, to assess vital domestic defence capabilities. Following the shop floor tour, Singh received a briefing from the CMDs of the Director of Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment, a DRDO laboratory in Kanpur, as well as the CMDs of three Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) based in Kanpur: AWEIL, Troop Comforts India Limited, and Gliders India Limited.
In order to address the needs of the Services, the CMDs of the new DPSUs updated the Minister during the presentations on their product profiles, significant ongoing projects, research and development, and modernisation initiatives.
AWEIL specialises in producing gun systems in small, medium, and large calibres. Combat outfits, ballistic protection equipment, apparel for extreme cold, and high-altitude tentages are among TCL's primary goods. On the other hand, GIL is India's oldest and largest parachutist producing facility.
