Kanpur Municipal Commissioner Mr. Shivasharanappa G.N. announced on May 16, 2024, that Kanpur city has achieved the top ranking for air quality and pollution prevention efforts in the national ranking for the final quarter of the fiscal year 2023–24 on the PRANA portal (Portal for Regulation of Air Pollution in Non-Attainment Cities). This achievement is a result of the efforts made to improve air quality and prevent air pollution.

The National Clean Air Programme's (NCAP) execution is being tracked via the "PRANA" - Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment cities - portal. It will facilitate the tracking of the financial and physical status of the city's implementation of the air action plan and inform the public about the NCAP's efforts to manage air quality.

NCAP is a five-year, mid-term action plan that was introduced in 2019. However, national and international research show that meaningful results from air pollution initiatives are only seen over an extended period of time. For this reason, the programme may be extended to a further 20–25 years in the future following a mid-term evaluation of the results.
