Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the launch of metro passenger services from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central by January 2025.

The Chief Minister stated, “Kanpur Metro is a major milestone in the city’s development journey. It has provided an excellent mode of transport to the city. The metro is operating exceptionally well, significantly transforming urban transit. The dream of travelling from IIT to Kanpur Central by metro will soon become a reality. Starting January 2025, the metro service will relieve city residents from traffic congestion, encouraging more daily commuters to choose this mode of transport.”

Metro service preparations from IIT to Kanpur Central are almost finished. The route from Motijheel to Kanpur Central will undergo a test run in the upcoming days. Presently, the Kanpur Metro serves nine elevated stations along the Priority Corridor between IIT and Motijheel. Five more subterranean stations will be added to the network when it is extended to Kanpur Central in January 2025: Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central.

Additionally, Kanpur Metro was the first in the state to have the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) operational. The Priority Corridor (IIT to Motijheel) was notable for having been built by Kanpur Metro in just two years and 1.5 months, setting a national record for the quickest metro construction and operation.

The metro can cover the distance between IIT and Motijheel in less than 30 minutes, whereas the road trip currently takes one to one and a quarter hours. The city is getting closer to using the entire metro network from IIT to Kanpur Central as the development work on the remaining portion of Corridor-1 moves forward methodically.

CLEAN METRO, GREEN METRO

It is anticipated that the city's economy will benefit from this practical and reasonably priced form of transportation. Kanpur Metro is a carbon-emission-free, environmentally friendly Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). The city's greenery and beauty have been improved by the development of a green belt beneath the metro viaduct median. A smooth, safe, and clean transit experience is guaranteed by the metro. For a small fee, it also provides booking services for occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, and cat parties.
