The UAS Testing Foundation and the Communication (defence) Testing Foundation are special purpose organisations with which the IIT Kanpur Research and Technology Park Foundation has signed agreements to build cutting-edge defence testing facilities.
HAL, BEL, BEML, Yantra India Limited (YIL), Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (GIL), and EndureAir Systems are the members of the UAS Testing Foundation. Similarly, HAL, BEL, Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), and BEML are members of the Communication (Defence) Testing Foundation. Technopark@IITK and UPEIDA are essential components of both associations.
The Department of Defence Production (DDP) of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is spearheading the establishment of the testing infrastructure through the Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS). In order to meet the demands of the domestic defence sector, this program seeks to develop easily accessible and superior testing facilities.
Representatives from the UAS Testing Foundation's and the Communication (Defence) Testing Foundation's top partners, HAL and BEL, respectively, signed agreements with Technopark@IITK. The Communication Systems facility will be 9,000 square feet, while the projected DTI UAS facility will be 11,500 square feet.
Ancillary infrastructure, such as office spaces, will support both facilities on the Technopark@IITK campus. As more private companies join the defence industry, these facilities will give them the chance to effectively test their goods and guarantee high standards, which will ultimately lead to increased independence.
